Sometimes we can be surprised when these dynamics change and shift: an analysand explained recently how his sexual desire for his partner disappeared abruptly when he realised 'we were the same person
I was really surprised recently too when the dynamic changed. And when it shifted I was shocked. But my therapist explained that that was completely normal. Sometimes that happens. I told her that no-one had ever been so kind to me. She thanked me because as she told me she had never felt so validated, so seen by a client before. I made myself special for her. To restore her dignity. It’s a beautiful story. When we reach the inner sanctum of another’s heart with a word or gesture we become who we are meant to be.
Could someone help me find where Freud discusses this? I’d love to learn more. It’s quite similar to something I’ve been thinking about lately:
“We can love someone both anaclitically and narcissistically, and if another person has qualities we wish we had ourselves, this does not mean that they in any way resemble us. They might seem quite different, but they embody what we want to be, what we aspire to.”
One of my BFs' sister married a convicted murderer. Of course he maintained his innocence but those guys lie like rugs. When my brother was in prison he strung me along with an elaborate lie to manipulate me so that I'd help him get out of a jam. Of course I forgave him but I will never forget.
I want to read more on this topic

Please don’t use AI Zizek
Which part of this is ai?
Maybe the cover image
Or may be it is AI pretending to be Zizek. I hear that the real Zizek died years ago.
