Im confused. I mean I believe the contention is Israel overreacted to the October 7th atrocities committed by Hamas by vowing to a. Rescue all the hostages and b. Find or kill those responsible for the atrocities. Unless October 7th didn’t occur, I can assume that Hamas leaders are all wanted for war crimes. Are Hamas leaders responsible for what Zisek defines as genocide by not surrendering themselves and the hostages for their atrocities. Im always perplexed with what I assume would be an appropriate response to rape and murder. If the professed goal of your enemy is to wipe you off the face of the earth (Hamas stated goal), a fair response, and sorry self preservation is universal to humanity, can only culminate in I must kill you before you kill me. Writ large, yes, but nonetheless a compelling response rooted in history.

What lands here is the IT’S DIGNITY STUPID NOW angle. It turns the idea into a usable lens instead of another abstract take.
